Ron Sharp is a seasoned business leader and successful entrepreneur with 38 years of experience serving in manager & senior executive roles for Fortune 500 companies and regional/national real estate development firms and participated in founding several highly successful business ventures. Ron is currently the President of Sharp Consultancy, Inc. where he provides services in the areas of sales & marketing as well as new business development for Welk Resort Group and other developers.
Since 1999, Ron has managed or completed sellout of several successful land development projects ranging in size from 32 to 155 lots in Douglas County, Nevada; Punta Chivato, Baja California Sur, Mexico and in Grants, New Mexico.
Ron is proud to have developed Taveuni Palms (www.taveunipalms.com), a boutique resort in Fiji that was named one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world by Forbes.com in 2005 and has won World Travel Awards and World Luxury Hotel Awards in 2010 and 2011 while maintaining a 5 star rating on Trip Advisor.
Through the first quarter 2010, Ron served as Senior Vice President and C.F.O. for Welk Resort Group. Ron was an active participant in growing Welk from $11 million in timeshare sales with an operating loss to over $80 million with operating profits up to 16 percent. Ron also oversaw all legal, accounting and finance related responsibilities for the initial development Welk Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
In 1991, Ron partnered with Don Dubin to form Success Companies, a firm that developed quality resorts in Scottsdale, Arizona and Avon, Colorado, with peak annual sales of nearly $40 million and over 300 employees. Success was acquired by Vistana who was then acquired by Starwood Hotels in 1999, and Ron then served as Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of Starwood V.O. – Western Division during a growth period where sales grew to $80 million by 2000 substantially exceeding budgeted sales & profits.
Before forming Success Companies, Ron served as Vice President of Marketing for Midlan International, a firm specializing in bank workouts in the timeshare space. Midlan grew to manage sales & marketing operations for three resorts in California and Arizona generating close to $40 million in annual sales revenue. Ron’s contributions helped Midlan quickly increase profits and he was soon promoted to Senior Vice President – Marketing & C.F.O.
Prior to joining Midlan, Ron was a Colorado licensed real estate broker and ran a resort property management company that managed 300 units. During this time, Ron managed a timeshare resort in Vail, assisted a failing developer with a fractions and timeshare exit strategy in Summit County, and assisted a developer with a timeshare start-up in Breckenridge, Colorado.
